TARIQ DAJANI

‘ABOVE WADI RUM’ PHOTOGRAPHY AT JACARANDA IMAGES

Continuing with their plan to showcase a body of work from artists on a monthly basis, Jacaranda Images displays Tariq Dajani’s new fine art photographs ‘ABOVE WADI RUM’ from 3 to 30 November.

Tariq Dajani’s view of Wadi Rum is not one we know well as he applies his style to the photographs, where the landscape is familiar yet fresh to our eyes.

The 12 images are epic vistas of the landscape, the great geographical theme, where wide angle images show the mountains rising to the early morning sky. Others in the series are shot from directly above so the landscape becomes an abstract canvas, where erosion, the morning shadows and streaks of sand colours form patterns and brushstrokes.

The desert is undisturbed except for an occasional human intervention, roads in the distance, or just visible tracks in the sand, providing a sense of scale for those unfamiliar with the magnificence of Wadi Rum.

Known for his portraits of the Arabian Horse in the ASIL body of work, Tariq captures the drama of Wadi Rum with his eye for composition and detail, while his technical style sets these photographs far apart from the standard images the public generally sees.

Tariq Dajani

Born in England, Jordanian photographer Tariq Dajani spent his early formative years moving between the Middle East and Europe, gaining an understanding and an appreciation of different cultures and traditions. He grew up with a strong interest in the arts, which subsequently led to a career in photography.

Tariq returned to the Middle East in 2007 after working for many years in London and Stockholm both as a commercial photographer and an artist. He has had 2 solo exhibitions for ASIL, the body of work on the purebred Arabian horse, in Amman in March 2008 and in Dubai in 2009. Additionally his work was shown at The Bahrai National Museum in the exhibition ‘3 Dimensions, 3 Jordanian Artists’ curated by Jacaranda Images.

Tariq has widely exhibited his work in Europe and the Middle East, both in solo and group shows, and has won several prestigious international photographic awards.
