Basico is a drawing process that reflects upon the many facets of communication, decomposing them each time. With strong lines emblematic of a universal perspective, each figure they contain is another manifestation of the human experience. It depicts the interplay between one individual or group with another. And incidental convergence where divergence may have otherwise been.

‘Connecting Stairs’ illustrates the directional and architectural nature of stairways – inside which exist successions of faces, which may as easily be successions of words, thoughts, gestures, or emotions. In Amman, stairs enable the city’s inhabitants to connect with one another at and across multiple places. Their many trajectories determine the directionality of the messages they carry. Their intersections become crossroads of meaning and create new spaces for interaction. How important is the journey of a message for it to be welcomed and universally understood?
Collaborative drawing
Collaborative drawing is a form of revivifying the Basico project through performances across different cities. Via the interaction between the public and the artist, a unique creation emerges – belonging to that collective of people at that very moment. The practice allows for a simultaneous response to the subject-question raised by the artwork.
