CARVING SHADOWS

Atelier Uraiqat

8 to 30 September 2013

Carving Shadows at Jacaranda Images is an exhibition of Atelier Uraiqat’s latest work exploring the relationship of geometry and design. It is a collection of objects that can equally be furniture, sculpture and art.

The exhibition explores the possibilities of pattern and material and the effects of light and challenge the notions of stability, movement, perception, and physicality. Each work explores the unlimited through the exploitation of the limited, finding complexity within simplicity.

The triad is one of the most recurring concepts in the history of art and thought. Its  two-dimensional shape possesses three-dimensional qualities in the effects and formations that are created through the simple manipulation of its combinations.

The Carving Shadows exhibition explores a number of these combinations. From layering and patterning to three-dimensional form building, it is a manifestation of the unlimited potential of the triangle when coupled with light. The exhibition celebrates not just the physicality of these combinations but the resultant effects of dancing shadows and reflections in what seems to be an endless field of movement.

In some works, what are originally static objects become dynamic with the integration of the patterning and light  from within and they start to project their physical space into the surrounding walls and floor to create  movement with the dancing shadows.

TRI/Angulate is part of Atelier Uraiqat’s ongoing journey of experimentation and exploration of the crossing moments and meeting points between the physical, the technological, the conceptual, and the imagined.

Carving Shadows exhibits in Amman, Jordan at Jacaranda Images from 8 to 30 September, 2013 launching within the framework of Artweek Amman.
