In the presence of the Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China, the Shanghai Museum of History, in association with the Shanghai International Culture Association, presents a rare insight to the history of Shanghai with this exhibition of old and new photographs from its collection, showing at Jacaranda Images in May.
The photographic exhibition focuses on urban scenes and lifestyle of Shanghai and reflects the changes and developments of the city through old and new photographs in a hope to aid Jordanian visitors to a broader knowledge of Shanghai and China.
Shanghai is a pearl on the west coast of the Pacific Ocean and an economic centre in China with 24 million residents. It is an international city that pulses with life and creativity. Here, the Chinese and foreign cultures merge and modernity meets heritage making it an attractive and unique tourist destination with over 8 million visitors annually. Shanghai is also considered to be an international centre of economy, trade, finance and shipping, and a hub for technological innovation that may have a global influence.
There’s a long history of cordial relations between China and Jordan with each contributing greatly to the history of human civilization with the culture and history they each possess. Coinciding with the celebration of 40 years of diplomatic relations between the two countries and with a new historical starting point of strategic relations, building on the joint effort in creating “One Belt, One Road” we hope to build a bridge of friendship and a road of culture between China and Jordan through reinforcing cultural exchange and cooperation.
During the opening there will be a demonstration of the ancient and traditional art of paper cutting, which symbolizes luck and happiness and clay sculptures, by two of Shanghai’s foremost craftspeople.
