‘SAWWER AL CHEF’
Following 2014’s successful event, Jacaranda Images and Darat al Tasweer are pleased to announce the 2nd photographic competition ‘Sawwer Al Chef’ where the chef is celebrated. From June 1till the 25 July the competition is open to both amateur and advanced photographers to present their photos to be judged for an exhibition later in August.
Jordanians are serious about their food – mensaf and kanafeh, 5 star restaurants, local cafes, family lunches and roadside bbqs make up some of the great food experiences in Jordan. The competition, timed to coincide with Ramadan, is looking for photographs of chefs in any setting, any location, studio setup or natural environment, with photos that that embody the passion and care that preparing good food involves. The term ‘ chef’ is broad and can extend from a fully qualified restaurant chef to grandmothers making vine leaves, dads cooking bbqs, or the neighborhood shawerma cook. The common factor is a passion for preparing food!
Along with a wonderful appreciation of food, the tourism and hospitality industry is continuing to grow as Jordan remains a favoured destination known for its unique attractions. With new hotels, restaurants and cafes opening all the time, the tourism industry needs people to join the profession. The Jordan Restaurant Association, the Jordan Chefs Association and the Royal Academy for Culinary Arts recognise the importance of building awareness for people to join the industry and have joined as partners in the project.
The competition is open to amateur and advanced photographers with up to 12 finalists in each category will be chosen with an exhibition to be held in August at Jacaranda Images when the winners will be announced. Entry forms will be available in person and online from Jacaranda Images and Darat al Tasweer. One winner each from the amateur and advanced categories will receive a cash and other prizes and a ‘People’s Choice Award’ will be voted for in each category when the finalists are displayed in the exhibition.
The jury for the competition will consist of 2 internationally acclaimed photographers along with the owners of Jacaranda Images and Darat al Tasweer and a representative from the hospitality industry. Competition winners will be announced in August at the exhibition.
