‘SAWWER AL CHEF’
The results of the photographic competition held during July will be on display at Jacaranda Images from 3 to 20 September 2014 with the winner announced at the opening.
Organised by Jacaranda Images and Darat al Tasweer, the competition highlighted the passion of chefs in the country. Jordanians are serious about their food with mensaf and kanafeh, 5 star restaurants, local cafes, family lunches and roadside bbqs making up some of the great food experiences in Jordan. The competition, timed to coincide with Ramadan, looked for photographs of chefs in any setting, any location, studio setup or natural environment, as long as they showed the passion and care that preparing good food involves. The term ‘ chef’ was broad and the resulting photographs include fully qualified restaurant chefs to grandmothers and bbq cooks.
The competition also highlights the tourism and hospitality industry as a growing industry as Jordan remains a favoured destination known for its unique attractions. The Jordan Restaurant Association and the Royal Academy for Culinary Arts recognise the importance of building awareness for people to join the industry and have joined as partners in the project.
The exhibition will exhibit 12 finalists from over 50 entries and the prize of JD500 and dinner for 2 people at L’Incontro Restaurant at Grand Hyatt Amman will be awarded to the winner at the opening of the exhibition. During the exhibition the public can vote for their favourite photograph in the ‘People’s Choice Award’ with the photographer winning dinner at Indochine Restaurant at Grand Hyatt Amman.
The jury for the competition consisted of 2 internationally acclaimed photographers – Zohrab and Tariq Dajani, along with the owners of Jacaranda Images and Darat al Tasweer.
