Ben Playle is a British stencil artist. He developed his technique over 14 years of stencil cutting, he is experimenting for the first time with interactive art. The backgrounds have been divided into sections of abstract puzzle pieces to create an intense base canvas that demands careful inspection. The collection includes jigsaw puzzle pieces to be matched together, as well as six sided Hussein Bicar influenced cubes that can be interchanged to create an endless combination of artworks. Whilst seeking inspiration from Arabic motifs and design, Ben applies a vibrant colour palette by incorporating wallpaper designs from 1870’s English textile artist, William Morris. Juxtaposed over the backgrounds are characters reworked from a 1898 edition of 1001 Arabian Nights, illustrated by HJ Ford.
